You can find all the requirements for Google AdSense approval on Google’s help centre. But if you’re looking to know about all the criteria on one single page without needing to browse through a list of long and scattered pages, then read on.
This article contains all the vital information you need to get your AdSense account approved.
Let’s dive into it..
1. You Must Be at Least 18 Years of Age
To be approved for AdSense, you have to be at least 18 years of age. This is clearly stated in Google’s terms and conditions.
However, if you’re below 18 and eager to start monetizing your blog, you can use your parents’ information to register the account until your age is up enough to get one of your own.
And once you’re above 18 years of age, you can apply for approval or continue with your parent’s account. I don’t think that should be an issue since it’s your parent’s information.
2. You Must Have Total Control of Your Site
It is recommended that you have control over the content on your site or you’re the administrator.
You’ll be in violation of the Google terms of service and possibly of copyright violations if you publish content that’s not yours.
An exception to this is if you have a site with syndication rights to re-publish content from select other sources, maybe through RSS, you can still monetize your site, and Google will not penalize you.
As for the “control over your site,” criterium primarily means you have administration right to the site, including the source code.
AdSense requires that you’re able to add the ad code to your site.

A few exceptions are, for example, websites like HubPages allow users to write for the site and allow them to add their code and display ads in rotation between their own and the author’s on that person’s content.
Also, Google allows you to sign up for YouTube and monetize a YouTube account without ever having to mess around with code because you already have it there.
3. Your Site Must Contain Unique and Interesting Content
make sure your site’s pages are ready for AdSense before you apply at all. Your site needs to have content worth monetizing because if Google finds your site to be full of thin content or scraped content, the content of no value to readers, they’re probably going to decline your application.
This is one of the factors Google doesn’t joke with as it helps them cut out spam sites.
4. Your Site Must Have Clear Navigation
Google’s objectives and goals are to provide relevant information to users, whether you’re optimizing its search engine or applying for AdSense account approval. And part of providing useful information is first helping users to navigate easily to where the resources are.
Google has a team of professionals whose job is to review websites, so if the team can’t navigate your site, you can’t get approval.
Here’s what google says about website navigation and that you should follow:
- A menu or navigation bar that is easily accessible.
- Elements of your menu bar that are lined up correctly.
- Text on your bar that is easy to read.
- Elements, drop-downs, and links that all work properly.
Google doesn’t recommend a “standard” web design, as long as the architectural and structural design is clear, navigable, functional, and responsive.
5. You must avoid driving fake traffic to your site
One of the biggest AdSense policies out there and one that could get you not just rejected but banned is driving fake traffic to your site.
As Google says:
“Clicks on Google ads must result from genuine user interest. Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions on your Google ads is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include, but are not limited to, repeated manual clicks or impressions, automated click and impression generating tools, and the use of robots or deceptive software. Please note that clicking your ads for any reason is prohibited.”
After Google approved your AdSense account, it’ll sample your site’s traffic and the clicks to your site, and if they find any fraudulent clicks or impressions to your AdSense ads, they will not hesitate to ban you.
6. Your Content Must Comply with Google Content Policies
There are restrictions on the kind of content that you can publish on your site for monetization. Content like an adult, pornography, shock content, threats, excessive profanity, hacking content, malware, drug content, weapon sales, and so on will get rejected.
For the full list of restricted content, read Google’s publisher content policies here.
Any content that falls in the category such as obscene, illegal, adult, violent, hateful, or damaging” is prohibited. Make sure your site does not fall into these categories before you apply.
7. You must not include copyrighted content in your blog without permissions
According to copyright law, your website must contain unique articles or have the right to use or share text, images, infographics, and videos.
However, you can legally use content that doesn’t belong to you. For example, you can embed a public social media post such as from Twitter or YouTube video – so long as you aren’t claiming to be the original author or owner.
There are free royalty images from Pixabay or Pexels that you can use, and your application won’t be rejected.
It’s best to err on the side of caution here as copyright can be a big issue that can lead Google to ban your site.
8. You Must Use a Supported Language
Unfortunately, not all languages are supported by Google AdSense. Google wants to be sure they’re displaying ads that are readable to the viewers. However, you can have bilingual content on your site, but so long as most of the content on the site is in a supported language, that’s fine.
Supported Languages are:
Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Both simplified and traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Marathi, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (both traditional and Latin American), Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
Even as some of these languages are supported for AdSense display ads, they’re not supported in the AdSense dashboard.
Note: Google may introduce support for other languages at any time.
9. Your Site Must Not Have an Abusive Experience
Google means by “abusive experience” is defined by a set of manipulative, harmful, fraudulent, or misleading practices that Google bans.
Here are some of the abusive experiences on AdSense that Google frowns upon:
- Page elements that resemble chat apps, system warnings, or other dialogue boxes the user would want to click on.
- Areas of the page that are clickable when nothing indicates they should be.
- Misleading buttons, such as a “next page” arrow that leads to a landing page instead.
- Scripts that manipulate browser history to prevent using the “back” button.
- Anything using social engineering or phishing to steal information.
- Elements that make it look like the user is clicking to manipulate a user into clicking.
- Malware of any sort present on the site.
- Anything that makes a page looks like it’s trying to scam users, steal information, deliver malware, or otherwise commit some fraud is banned.
Other AdSense Eligibility Criteria to boost Your Chances of Getting Approved
Other eligibility requirements listed below are not stated in Google’s documentation, but they can be a reason why your site is rejected when you apply. At the same time, it can be a reason why your site is approved. So, it’s a good idea to have these things in place before applying for Google AdSense. That way, you can be sure of getting approved without any issues.
10. You Should Have Technical Pages
Your site is much more likely to be rejected from the program if it doesn’t have technical pages. Technical pages are pages that establish trust in a brand, and they include the Privacy Policy page, the About Us page, and the Contact Us page.
An About page helps users to trust you. Know that you are who you claim to be and that there’s some level of legitimacy behind your brand. Contact us page should contain information like an address and phone number. This will show that you’re trustworthy, and users can easily contact you.
The privacy policy page should also be treated as important. However, sometimes, you don’t need a complex, long privacy policy, and there are tools online to generate one for you in a few seconds.
11. Make Sure Your Site is at Least 6 Months Old
Again, this is not written anywhere on the Google AdSense eligibility requirements page but can affect many applicants.
While this still circulates the web is because, when AdSense first started, it was easy to apply and get approval.
But Google realized many people applied for their AdSense with low-quality sites that were eating up money in bulk, so they started raising their standards.
The standard meant preventing some level of abuse on their site by restricting who can be approved. So, part of the standard is if a page is younger than six months old – such as if you just created your site last week – you may find it harder to get approval. But this is not always the case. If you’ve owned successful sites in the past, Google may allow a brand new domain.
12. Number of Posts
Before applying, make sure that the number of posts in the blog is definitely according to the eligibility requirements for Adsense. I personally recommend at least twenty-five blog posts as a good start. Your post must have good content and should have plenty of good resources. All these resouces should be well strutured and unique.
13. You Need Some Amount of Traffic
Note that Google doesn’t necessarily reject a site for not having enough traffic. If you don’t have enough traffic, it means you won’t be earning enough money even to cash out.
I recommend that you verify the above requirement before submitting an application. When you meet all of the criteria mentioned above, you can request an account; Google will review your request and will let you know by email within a few days.
However, if after you request an Adsense account and you still do not get approval from Google check again if there’s anything that you are not doing right, and then request to apply again.
