Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an ASCII string format by translating it into a radix-64 representation. This encoding is used for transmitting data over channels that cannot handle binary data, such as email systems or some types of network protocols. The Base64 encoding process converts 3 bytes of binary data into 4 bytes of ASCII text, which increases the size of the data by 33%. Conversely, the decoding process converts 4 bytes of ASCII text back into 3 bytes of binary data.
